Faculty
The Mozart Philharmonic Orchestra is shaped by some of Australia's finest music educators — internationally trained, performance-active, and united by a commitment to the highest standard of musical instruction.
A Faculty of International Distinction
The Mozart Philharmonic Orchestra has assembled a team of highly experienced music educators, many of whom are renowned globally. Our teachers bring a deep understanding of pedagogical philosophy and the Australian music education system, combined with active professional performance careers at the highest level. Whether a student is beginning their orchestral journey or preparing for conservatorium entry, our faculty is equipped to guide them with precision, warmth, and genuine expertise.
The Mozart Philharmonic Orchestra draws on the full depth of this faculty — conductors, section heads, and specialist tutors working together to shape each ensemble into something greater than the sum of its parts.
The MPO Podium
Mr Ilya Isakovich
Mr Ilya Isakovich serves as Musical Director of the Mozart Philharmonic Orchestra and our Head of Strings. A violinist of international standing, Mr Isakovich brings to the MPO podium a rare combination of elite performance experience, deep pedagogical insight, and an uncompromising commitment to ensemble standards.
Trained at a leading European conservatorium, Mr Isakovich has built a distinguished career spanning orchestral leadership, solo performance, and teaching at the highest levels of the Australian music education system. His conducting approach is both technically rigorous and musically inspiring — known for his ability to elicit precision and expression from young players simultaneously.
As our Head of Strings, Mr Isakovich brings the full resources of the Academy's exceptional string faculty to bear on every MPO rehearsal. His vision for the orchestra is of an ensemble that does not merely perform the great orchestral works, but truly inhabits them — bringing historical understanding, technical command, and genuine musical feeling to every bar.
Under Mr Isakovich's direction, the Mozart Philharmonic Orchestra has established itself as one of Sydney's most artistically ambitious and educationally rigorous youth ensembles.
Dr Goetz Richter
Dr Goetz Richter is one of Australia's most distinguished violinists and music educators, serving as Patron of the Mozart Philharmonic Orchestra and a senior advisor to its artistic direction. As a performer and teacher of international renown, Dr Richter's association with the Orchestra represents a commitment to the highest standards of musical excellence.
Dr Richter brings to his patronage a career spanning the world's finest concert halls and music institutions. His presence within the MPO community elevates the expectations of every student and teacher affiliated with the program, and his guidance on questions of repertoire, pedagogy, and artistic direction shapes the MPO's long-term vision.
